ISE - Mie Prefecture
Ise (伊勢市) is famous all over Japan as the 'Holy City'. It is home to the Ise Shrines (Ise Jingu), Japan's most sacred Shinto shrines, with the Inner Shrine dedicated to Shinto's most important god: the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. The city has 125 shinto shrines but some are more special than others, such as Futamiokitama Shrine and Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks). Ise also offers natural wonders and culinary delicacies, which are less known by visitors. Most of the city is within the geographic limits of Ise-Shima National Park, which allows to enjoy breathtaking views and discover the local culture of the Ama, female divers that collect seafood in the ocean and sell it grilled in their huts.
